Travelling to Teach summer holiday programme for teachers
Summer teaching projects for qualified teachers

Education can help children to achieve more in life, but in some of the poorest regions of the world, schools struggle to make an impact.

Although India, Nepal, Tanzania and Chile are very different countries they all face major development issues which contribute to a poor quality of education in underprivileged communities.

Inspire’s Travelling to Teach Programme 2012 gives qualified teachers the opportunity to volunteer abroad during their long summer holiday and make a difference in under-funded schools by teaching abroad.

Overview

Overview

The UK has thousands of dedicated and inspiring teachers who have the skills and commitment to change lives in the developing world through volunteer teaching. The Travelling to Teach Summer Holiday Programme 2012 looks to harness these skills to benefit underprivileged children in India, Nepal, Tanzania and Chile.

Participants on this summer teaching project will work in charity and government schools, helping to provide education to children in genuine need of help and support. The selected schools work with limited resources and benefit greatly from strong teaching skills. Volunteer teachers will work alongside local teachers with children of various ages (between 3 and 18 years) depending on the school.

Travelling to Teach is open to all qualified teachers, English language teachers and those with an aptitude for drama, arts, music and sport. Volunteers will teach abroad in rural and urban schools matched specifically to their own interests and skills.

Location

Location

India
India is a country bursting with diversity. While its vibrant culture and contrasting landscapes can be a shock to the senses, they make it a truly inspiring destination to volunteer abroad.

Volunteers teaching abroad on the Travelling to Teach programme will be placed in schools in Kalimpong, Bangalore or Chennai.

Nepal
Historically Nepal has been a dividing line between civilisations and religions, and visitors can discover its diverse and charming peoples, as well as the spectacular Himalayan scenery that dominates its culture.

Travelling to Teach volunteers will be based in Kathmandu or around Dhulikhel.

Tanzania
Tanzania is one of Africa’s most beautiful countries and is home to the continent’s highest mountain as well as some of its finest national parks and game reserves.

It is a fascinating destination for a summer teaching project and volunteers will be placed in schools in and around Arusha, Moshi and the Pare Mountains.

Chile
Sandwiched between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Chile’s long, thin landmass offers a surprising variety of experiences for those volunteering abroad.

Inspire volunteer teachers will be based in the Elqui Valley.
