Teach underprivileged children in Nepal
Teach abroad in Kathmandu and rural Nepal

Dominated by the Himalayan mountain range, Nepal is a country of striking natural beauty and one that offers a diverse range of experiences for gap year and career break travellers.

Yet despite its popularity as a trekking destination, Nepal remains one of the poorest countries in the world, with half the population living below the absolute poverty line. Limited infrastructure and natural resources also mean the country is reliant on foreign aid.

To release Nepal from this dependency, international organisations need to target range of development indices, but it is education that holds the greatest potential for sustainable growth. As a volunteer in Nepal you can help to improve access to education.

Overview

Overview

Volunteers teaching in Nepal with Inspire can contribute to schools that, in the face of scarce resources, struggle to provide good quality, relevant and accessible education. We have volunteer opportunities in the mystical Nepalese capital Kathmandu, as well as in poor farming communities in the Kathmandu Valley.

As a gap year or career break volunteer you will live and work in the local community and teach English at your designated school. Depending on your own skills and interests you can incorporate other subjects into your teaching schedule or run after school activities.

Teaching English abroad with such limited resources can prove a challenging experience, but the children respond well to new faces and are eager to learn. By sharing your skills and experiences and exposing students and staff to another culture, you can make a lasting impact in disadvantaged communities

Location

Location

Country
Historically Nepal has been a crossroads of culture and commerce and a dividing line between civilisations and religions. A gap year or career break in Nepal is an opportunity to discover the country’s diverse and charming peoples, as well as the spectacular Himalayan scenery that dominates its culture.

Region
This volunteer work is available in Kathmandu and around Dhulikhel. Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal and its mystical monasteries and temples make it a special location to volunteer abroad. Dhulikhel is found in the rural surroundings of the Kathmandu Valley and is overlooked by stunning Himalayan scenery.

Local attractions
The biggest attraction for any volunteer in Nepal has got to be the spectacular Himalayan mountain scenery. Nepal is famous for trekking and Mount Everest and Annapurna present exciting high altitude challenges for those seeking adventure.
