Sri Lanka has been the centre of Buddhist religion and culture since ancient times and volunteering in Sri Lanka gives you the chance to immerse yourself in its unique mystique.
While tourism is helping to improve living standards in built up areas, rural communities continue to struggle to support themselves. Care for the elderly is often neglected and community volunteer work can help provide much needed help.
Overview
Overview
We offer volunteer opportunities in elderly care homes in and around the picturesque city of Kandy. This volunteer care work project provides food, shelter and residential care for elderly Sri Lankans who do not have family or the means to support themselves.
This volunteer work gives you the chance to provide care and comfort for elderly Sri Lankans living in a government-run care home. Your role on this voluntary project can include a variety of tasks, including cleaning in and around the care home, helping staff cook meals, washing residents and providing one-on-one care and attention for the elderly.
Those who volunteer abroad on this community project provide much-needed support in under-funded care homes. Elderly Sri Lankans are often marginalised within local communities, creating a real need for residential and emotional support. This community volunteer work requires no specialist skills but is ideal for anyone wanting to help the elderly.
