Tucked between the imposing landmasses of India and China, Nepal is often overlooked as a destination to volunteer abroad.
However, it boasts its own unique charm that convinces many visitors to come back time and again. Despite its popularity as an adventure travel destination, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world.
Many Nepalese families cannot afford to care for their children, forcing them to live in orphanages. This orphanage volunteer project gives you the opportunity to enrich the lives of orphaned and abandoned children in Nepal.
Overview
Overview
This international volunteer project is based in an orphanage in southern Kathmandu. The orphanage is part of a network of childcare centres and schools that provide a home for nearly 200 poor and vulnerable Nepalese children and education for a further 500.
This is a fantastic opportunity to volunteer in an orphanage and brighten the lives of children in genuine need. Volunteers work with children aged between 6 and 16 years old, helping orphanage staff to care for them, and giving the children emotional support and a friendly face to relate to. While this volunteer abroad role is primarily based at the orphanage, the children are sponsored to attend a local school where volunteers are encouraged to help out with English classes.
When it comes to international volunteering there are few experiences more rewarding than working as a volunteer in an orphanage! As an orphanage volunteer you can use your energy, enthusiasm and creativity to interact with children, making their time at the orphanage more enjoyable and helping them learn and build for the future.
