Crater Highlands Trek
Exotic safari wildlife and game viewing
Trek through Maasai territory
Climb up an active volcano

Our Crater Highlands Trek is a unique African travel programme that lets you explore the natural amphiteatre of Ngorongoro Crater.

Your journey takes you from the plains of Ngorongoro to Empakai Crater, down the Great Rift Valley and onto spectacular Lake Natron, where a swim in the cool waterfall pools awaits you. For the truly adventurous there is an optional climb up an active carbonated volcano of spiritual significance to the Maasai.

During this trekking adventure travellers can get up close to some amazing wildlife and taste authentic local culture. You will be trekking with local Maasai guides and your belongings are transported on pack animals in the traditional way, just as tribesman have done for centuries.

This is an adventurous trek taking gap year and career break travellers well off the beaten track, with walking of 9 hours per day through some rugged terrain. You need to be physically fit, own good comfortable walking boots and enjoy the outdoors. There is no high altitude on this trip apart from a summit of 2878m on the optional volcano climb.
