India is a country bursting with diversity!

While its vibrant culture and contrasting landscapes can be a shock to the senses, they make it a truly inspiring destination to volunteer abroad and many are drawn back to visit again and again.

Whether visiting the Taj Mahal or the bustling streets of Mumbai, India promises unforgettable sights, sounds and experiences.

Development issues in India

Since independence in 1947 India has experienced rapid economic and demographic growth. However, despite the efforts of the government, poverty remains widespread. With India classified by the World Bank as a ‘low income’ developing country, voluntary work can make a big difference.

While exact figures are difficulty to obtain, it is estimated that around 300-500 million Indians live below the poverty line. As in other developing countries, poverty is accompanied by malnutrition and poor health. In these circumstances international aid and volunteer programs can make a real difference.

Voluntary work in India

As a volunteer in India you can help to address some of the country’s most pressing social and economic issues. Our volunteers use their skills to help underprivileged communities from Delhi to Darjeeling. With meaningful opportunities to get involved in volunteer teaching, childcare, healthcare, business and conservation, this is your chance to make a difference in one of the world’s most captivating countries.

Teaching

Volunteer TeachingTeaching
As an investment in the future, education is often the most effective long-term solution to poverty. By teaching English abroad or supporting community education you can help underprivileged communities in inner city and remote rural areas.

Childcare

ChildcareChildcare
With so many families struggling against poverty, child welfare is often neglected. Orphans and children with disabilities are the most vulnerable members of society and voluntary work can help provide invaluable support.

Healthcare

Widespread poverty is reflected in low living standards which easily leads to a range of health problems. Volunteer abroad and help those worst affected through volunteer programs with orphans and the disabled.

Business

Inspire partners with local organisations that provide invaluable support for underprivileged communities. As a volunteer in India you can help NGOs and charities to develop their organisational and administrative capacity – helping them to help others.

Conservation

With global warming continuing apace, conservation work grows in importance. In India, as elsewhere in the developing world, a lack of funding is the biggest obstacle. Our India volunteer conservation projects give you the chance to safeguard the future of endangered animals.
