If you couldn’t put your volunteering experience down on your CV, would you still do it?
Young people these days are often being told that volunteering is ‘good for the CV’ and it can help you get a better job. However, we are forgetting that the joy and feelings of adding to a cause that is worth much more than a paragraph on a piece of paper!
There is no better act than to volunteer; it goes back to the ‘very first foundations of the social contract and what it means to be a part of a democracy’. Volunteering is one of the social attributes that separates humans from other animals, we understand the idea of common happiness and to make the world a better place and then to actual contribute to that statement.
Volunteering can start from your own village, city or country to the furthest parts of the world. For a truly unique experience young people and career breakers are choosing to volunteer in countries that really need help. Countries like Tanzania and Gambia are increasingly popular, with all the publicity of the poverty in parts of Africa such as those. It is easy to forget however that it is not just Africa that needs volunteers; India for instance is home to thousands of children living in slums and on the streets.
