A university student from Suffolk has begun his summer volunteering in Nepal, The Haverhill Echo reports, He will be heading to Gorkha for a six week project building school classrooms and teaching children.
Jonathan Jordan, 21, who is reading International Relations, will then take a 2 week break travelling around India before returning home later this month.
We’re going to be in a remote village building classrooms – that’s the morning section – then in the afternoons we’ll be teaching the children, just basics really about health and sanitation and a little English.” Mr Jordan told the newspaper.
He continued “I’ve never been to Nepal before so it will be interesting to experience a different culture and see what life is like there and to see what needs to be done,”
Nepal is a very popular choice for volunteers when deciding on where to go. This is no small part down to the enriching experience all volunteers get when visiting and living with the local people. The culture in Nepal is different to anywhere else; many volunteers find it hard to explain once they return, and can only recommend they go and see for themselves.
If you want to copy Jonathan, then take a look at our projects in Nepal and see if you can be inspired to volunteer abroad.
