Travel websites come up with endless lists of places to see before you die and while it is impossible to come up with any definitive list, Yahoo! Travel is keen to add the debate.

Their top 10 ultimate travel destinations feature a combination of natural beauty and man-made attractions, ranging from New Zealand’s stunning South Island to the cosmopolitan cityscape of Manhattan.

Also included in the list are Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, the Canadian Rockies, Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, Zambia and Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, the Great Pyramids of Giza and Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue.

One lesser know attraction on the list is Sigirya in Sri Lanka. According to Yahoo! Travel “Few places in the world blend the achievements of humankind and the wonders of nature as perfectly.”

Also known as The Lion Rock, Sigirya was the site of an ancient castle and gardens from the 5th century AD. Visitors can join locals on the daily pilgrimage to its summit, traversing narrow spiral staircases and walkways, and passing frescos and the famous ‘Mirror Wall’ to get breathtaking views at sunrise.
