A survey conducted by Parkinson’s UK has suggested that up to one third of people in Scotland have no interest in supporting charities through fundraising or volunteering.
Almost half of those surveyed had never raised money for charity, while 64% said they had never been involved in volunteer work. Around one fifth of respondents said they would be interested in fundraising but did not know where to find information and support.
The figures were released to coincide with the start of Parkinson’s Awareness Week, which the charity hopes will boost fundraising and volunteering interest in Scotland and across the UK.
Parkinson’s disease affects around one in 500 people and Steve Ford, Chief Executive of Parkinson’s UK, is keen to broaden the charity’s reach. “As part of this year’s Parkinson’s awareness week, we’re asking even more people to join us in making sure that no one has to face Parkinson’s alone. Whether you know someone with Parkinson’s or not, you can join us.”
Inspire volunteer work is supported by its own UK-registered charity, the FutureSense Foundation. Find out more at www.futuresensefoundation.org.
