Preparation important for older gap year travellers

3rd February 2011

Gap year travel always requires some degree of preparation and planning, but one expert suggests that older travellers should take particular precautions.

Psychologist and author Dr David Lewis says that whether volunteering abroad or sightseeing, older travellers can make more of their trip abroad by preparing thoroughly.

Among other things, he suggests that older travellers research their chosen destination before setting off so that they can familiarise themselves with what to expect upon arrival.

He comments: “Providing that you take these upfront precautions before you leave these shores, then I think you are going to have a much better holiday and a much more fulfilling experience.”

Dr Lewis’ advice for gap year and career break travel could prove useful for the estimated 4.6 million UK pensioners who now travel abroad every year.
