Nepal targets one million visitors in 2011

Nepal targets one million visitors in 2011

17th September 2010

Nepal is gearing up for 2011 with a campaign to encourage tourists to visit the country and enjoy its unique range of spectacular mountain scenery and rich cultural heritage.

Currently Nepalese tourism is limited both in its scale and geographical spread and the government has recognised its value in developing the country’s economy, which in turn would raise standards of living.

Working with the Nepalese Tourism Industry, the government has launched a national campaign “Nepal Tourism Year 2011”, which aims to bring one million international visitors to the country next year and spread the benefits of tourism across the population.

Nepal is already renowned as a glittering adventure travel destination and the campaign aims to bring substance to the Nepalese proverb “Atithi Devo Bhava” (Guests are Gods), to reflect that “Atithi Satkar, Nepaliko Sanskar” (Hospitality is Nepalese Culture).

‘Voluntourism’ will play a crucial role in this campaign and by volunteering in Nepal you can help to build sustainable economic growth in one of the world’s poorest nations.
