Making Sure That You Have The Correct Insurance Should Be Priority.

19th August 2011

With A-level results out and the increase in people going travelling abroad this autumn the importance of having good travel insurance is being emphasised. People flying out to countries like India and Nepal are being advised that they make sure they have a good insurance policy in place. Brits who are arranging time out for voluntary work or skill-building activities abroad are especially being urged to put insurance to the top of their priority list.

Tom Hall, from the Lonely Planet, offered tips for travellers heading abroad for either a full year or just a few weeks advising that it is vital to get it sorted before leaving home as it can be difficult to do when overseas

He explained it is often better to do in advance, to ensure that it is not forgotten about.

“Take care to ensure everywhere you’re visiting is covered and that any activity, hazardous or otherwise, is mentioned in your policy with a decent level of excess,” Mr Hall advised.

He added that gappers should keep their insurance documents with them at all times, as well as making separate notes of policy numbers and important contact information.

Earlier this month, it was widely reported that 19-year-old gap year traveller Angus Paskin Orr had been ordered to pay medical costs of £650 for injuries he sustained on a gap year in Australia, because he did not have adequate cover.

You can find out more about this story on The Year Out Group’s Website. For any advice on travel insurance however, and to make sure your full gap year is not ruined by not having the right cover you can contact us. Call us on 08000 32 33 50 today!
