Volunteer work is an opportunity to help those in need and improve the community around you, but it can also boost your employability.
Speaking to Guardian Careers, entrepreneur and recruitment expert James Caan says that volunteering experience can really make your CV stand out: “When he’s considering two graduates with CVs which read the same, it’s activities such as volunteering which tip the balance for him.”
According to Guardian Careers, “many savvy students and graduates are realising volunteering experience might be just what their CV needs to stand out in a competitive market…there are a whole host of skills that can be gained in this way to help you impress a recruiter.”
Rather than hearing business buzzwords and promises of driving profits skywards, Caan claims that employers would much rather hear graduates talk about their volunteering, as it lets them see their personality and helps them visualise the candidate in their company.
