Taking a gap year is all about the ‘unknown’ if you knew what you were in for or already knew the place then it wouldn’t be too much fun to explore.
However, there are ways to make sure you don’t get too anxious the days before your trip. Here are a few tips below.
Choose a destination that suites you!
This may seem obvious, but you don’t want to be in a large city like Mumbai if it is not your thing, in the same way that if you enjoy large cities you wouldn’t want to visit the Himalayas. If you have been travelling before you have probably got a good idea of what you like, but if you haven’t you may want to choose a destination with a small slice of everything you already enjoy (Sports, Architecture, food etc.)
Pick a destination where you will know how to say Hello!
This may sound obvious again, but many people will book a gap year in South America and not speak Spanish. My advice is to take small steps first, go to a country where most of the natives speak English.
Don’t worry too much about what to pack
What towel should I take? Big one? Small one? These sort of questions cause anxiety, the answer is it doesn’t matter. As long as you take your passport, money and primary transport details, everything else can generally be brought where you are going. However if you are planning on visiting the North Pole you should maybe think twice about the small towel.
Inspire volunteering helps you choose the ideal destination for your travels and volunteering work, to make sure you don’t get any anxiety before your trip! However we are always here to help you with any questions you have no matter how big or small.
