70-Year-Old Man Recommends Volunteering Abroad To Cope With Grief

17th August 2011

Taking a volunteering project in India has helped one brave man to stay happy into his old age after a sad tragedy hit his life.

Following an appeal in the Daily Telegraph, Sylvia, who was recently widowed asked readers to send in help and advice to assist her overcome her grief. The Daily Telegraph compiled a list of the best suggestions.

One of the suggestions was from a 70-year-old man named John. He advised Sylvia to try volunteering in a foreign country to give herself more self worth. It was a method that John used himself stating “I cured myself of self pity by going out to India to teach”

He went on to add that volunteering abroad will help to giver her better self belief and convince her “of her own intrinsic worth”

According to various reports on the web and through travel industry insiders, India has recently seen a boost in the number of people that have chosen to make a difference and offer help, after watching television programmes about the poverty of the country.

Films including Slumdog Millionaire and Channel Four’s India season, earlier in the year have shown people the levels of deprivation in the country and inspired them to help.

The projects offered by Inspire in India are all carefully picked so that when you volunteer abroad with us you know for a fact you are making a significant difference in the community.
